Our school is committed to providing all students with a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment free from bullying and harassment that promotes respect, acceptance, and empathy.

Staff, students, parents and caregivers, and community partners will work together as a team to help make our school safe and welcoming for everyone.

The Safe and Inclusive School Plan highlights some of the key actions that our school community will put in place as part of our bullying prevention and intervention efforts.

Key Priorities and Goals

This year, our emphasis is on socio-emotional learning and conflict resolution.  Our aim is for our students to acquire skills in fostering better relationships and peacefully resolving conflicts.

We are doing this because socio-emotional learning and conflict resolution are crucial for children as they equip them with essential skills for navigating relationships, managing emotions, and fostering peaceful interactions throughout their day.

Key Actions or Strategies

  • Implementing problem-solving strategies through social stories, class lessons, and school-wide initiatives, while tracking progress through conflict resolution data and peer interaction assessments.

  • Explicitly teach our students about socio-emotional learning and self-regulation strategies throughout the year using school wide messages and activities, class lessons, mentor texts and common language.

  • Teach conflict resolution strategies. Teach students specific strategies for peacefully resolving conflicts. This could include techniques such as active listening, perspective-taking, compromise, and problem-solving. Model these strategies through role-playing activities or real-life scenarios.

Community and Home Connections

  • Ask your child about what strategies they are using at school to help self-regulate when they are feeling upset, angry, anxious or another big emotion.

  • Try role playing at home with your child working through a variety of situations.
